an old essay i wrote...
Posted by rann at 07:38 AM on December 16, 2004.
music is congruent to life...but life dictates
the real music in all of us.
metal, blues, purist, ke-anupaman yan...
But i try to look beyond that and gather all the great people ive
encountered and realized that alot of the music we hear is just
something audible...only the few encounter the real music in their
lives.
We all have that kindred spirit in us.
...who once skipped his lessons to play guitar or sing in front of
the mirror every night
...who had dreams of playing with iron maiden or rush or jimi
hendrix...sige kahit debbie gibson
...who got kicked out of the house at age 19 because gusto niya
mgaing half-baked rockstar sa isang half-baked philippines
...who spent all his money on cds, music magazines, the lifestyle, the
wardrobe
...the privilieged few who flew out of the country to pursue
education in their chosen fields of expertise...mapa-art/film/lit ang
galeng!
...those who play every night because thats all they can do; and
everyone thinks he/she is a loser
...the ones who got caught into drugs and lost it...then everyone
says;"how sad..." but never really saw the beauty of their tragedy in
the passion of their battles against their demons
...the kids who dream of simply hearing their songs on the radio
...the 40somethings who forgot about their dreams.
...the deaf-mute-blind who play music.how magnificent is that?i
remember greenhills and the red guitars...the crappy drumsets of the
blind drummers...how their insruments were all out of tune but you
could hear the music flowing...but no one noticed the real music.all
they saw were the pathetic and sorry "glorious" states of
consolation... that these handicapped people could play music...play
life.
what riches do we hold onto? what richness do we have? what wealth do
we cultivate? what abundance do we create?
its not about music.its about life.
I hope you never forget to live the music of life...with or without
an instrument...with or without a band...a label...a studio to record
your songs...wihtout a voice...with/without the personality and
wardrobe of a "rockstar to be"...
live with the notes of life and love and sacrifice and faith...not to
mention hope.
after all, we're living on borrowed time.
may your life be the music.
and hold on to your dreams.
cliche's...or just maybe "we" or "they" fail to understand.
i just wanted to thank all the artists and people i've worked
with...and my band especially...
all the kids i met and became friends with...
peers...
real people...
the kinds of people "other people" disregard...take for granted.
may we all march to the beat of a different drum and experience the
real music within us.
the real music in all of us.
Ika nga ng marami; tayong mga pinoy mga "pwede na-
